The EAC26 will be hosted by the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland. The title is
“Lift or Drag?: Taxes, Subsidies and Sustainable Aviation.”
As has become a tradition of EAC conferences, the EAC26 will cover economic, business and legal issues of both passenger and cargo markets. It will bring academic researchers, industry representatives and regulatory agencies together so that they can jointly further the understanding of management, economic, and policy aspects of the aviation industry.
We are pleased to let you know that Filip Cornelis has already confirmed his participation. He is Director for Aviation (DG MOVE Directorate E) in the European Commission, in charge of Aviation since October 2017. We are also grateful for the confirmed participation of Marie Owens Thomsen who is the Chief Economist of the International Air Transport Association (IATA). How to travel to St. Gallen
Many international flights arrive at Zurich Airport – most convenient way is to take the train straight from the Zurich airport terminal directly to the St. Gallen Bahnhof. There are no transfers needed.
From Zurich Airport: direct trains to St. Gallen roughly every 30 min; journey time 1h to St Gallen.
From Zurich Main Station (HB): frequent direct trains to St. Gallen, about 1h15. From Zurich to Zurich Airport 15 min in case you would like to visit Zurich.
Train tickets can be booked in advance via the SBB website: https://www.sbb.ch/en or download the SBB app, which provides easy scheduling, tickets, platform changes etc.
Once in St. Gallen, the easiest ways to arrive at the conference venue are:
Bus – 7 minutes (lines 3, 4 and 6 to the bus stop “Schützengarten” near the Radisson)
Walking if you packed light (around 18 minutes)

What to do around St Gallen/ Region
Stroll through the Altstadt (Old Town) with its bright, ornate façades and charming squares.
St. Gallen Abbey Library (Stiftsbibliothek): one of the oldest and most stunning libraries in the world, with medieval manuscripts and baroque architecture.
St. Gallen Cathedral (Stiftskirchen): beautiful interior and peaceful ambiance right by the library.
Wildpark Peter & Paul: A nice wildlife park with local alpine animals
Säntis & Alpstein: Take a day trip to Säntis Mountain which panoramic views.
Lake Constance (Bodensee): around 1 hr from St. Gallen by train/bus
Visiting the University Campus is also possible. The bus 9 from the Bahnhofplatz takes you up to the top of a hill that has a nice view to the city where the University is located. It can also be easily reached by foot walking uphill or the taking stair pathways.
Tip: Swiss Travel Pass / Regional Tickets make hopping around easy and scenic by rail. This can be bought at a counter at the train station or online.
